The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly. Several vegan choices and the small vegan combo is only $7- plenty of food for one person so it's a great value. Ambiance isn't great and the wait can be a tad long but I love the food and staff so I forget about all of that once I get my food. The other night I went in and they had an all you can eat buffet which was awesome- instant gratification with 5 vegan choices! I hope they make it a regular thing. Update 1/6/10- the all you can eat buffet is now a regular thing at Dalo's. It's just $10 and a great way to introduce someone to Ethiopian food or to get instant dinner.

Went on Saturday evening at 7pm. The place was about half full. We all ordered tibbs dishes and ordered an appetizer. Received drinks fairly promptly but after 45 minutes no appetizer, and all the people that were there when we arrived still had no food on their tables so we started getting worried. After about an hour one table near us got some food. Finally we got our food I think around the 80 minute mark. The food was good but not great. Definitely not worth the wait. Not coming back.

Everything positive said and written about Dalo's is absolutely true. The food is fresh, delicious, adequately spicy and above all CHEAP. You will never find better Ethiopian food in Portland- I've tried. The enjara is so fresh and tasty unlike the other places where it's cursty, cold & very bitter. Do yourself a favor and just go - try to get there before 8pm on friday and saturday - the rest of the week is fine after 8pm (except sunday - they're closed). Go and you wont be sorry.
